Hello everyone.

I will be traveling 3,000 miles to Carlsbad, CA in about 2 months to take all three of my lab classes for the GG program. I have been to CA before but not since I was a kid.

Does anyone have tips on where to stay? Where to avoid? I did get the hotel list from GIA and have looked at all the hotels. There are some nice and some not so nice. I will have to be there for 22 days in total so as you can imagine I am looking at $3,000-$6,000 just in hotel costs, depending on where I can stay. That is WAYYYYYYYYY out of my budget and will be doing car washes to try and raise the money for my trip. Are there any better options out there?

Any tips on how I can make this stay as affordable as possible will be very helpful. Also, is there anything I should do besides take my labs while I am there so I don't have to travel back in order to complete my GG? For example, is there a final I need to take while I am there that I can not take off campus? I will have to come back home and finish my other online course, including Gem ID.

One last question.. I know typically there is no graduation ceremony for E-Learning students, but can there be? I mean, if we wanted to join one of the one campus graduations, is that an option? My mom really wants a graduation ceremony and I think it would be fun to be able to celebrate it vs just getting a piece of paper in the mail. Just a thought.

Thank you in advance =D> [-o<

There are a couple of motel 6's near gia campus in Carlsbad that run about $70 a night. That's the cheapest you are going to get for motel/hotels. You could check into airbnb.com to see if you could find something cheaper.

Just to answer this question, no. All other full course final exams (Diamonds and Diamond Grading, Colored Stones and Gem ID) may be proctored locally with an approved proctor. While exams may be proctored in the student workroom on campus, most students choose to complete these at home with a proctor.

I would suggest that you meet your primary assigned instructor while on campus as it is always nice for us to put a face to a name :)
