Today I thought I would request a new written fee schedule from the GIA Trade lab in Carlsbad. What I found was:
1) Apparently in response to the "scandal" all telephone conversations are presently being RECORDED with appropriate notice being given to the caller and,
2) The new schedule is posted at the GIA website. It didn't used to be this way, as the operator agreed with my observation of this.
So, if anyone has any doubt as to whether they are "cleaning house" it appears from what I experienced that they are being diligent about being "transparent" (whatever that happens to mean to them) and open about fees for reports. I got a distinct "Big Brother" impression when I was told EVERYTHING is being recorded ( for "quality control", of course). Maybe thats what they feel they have to do to maintain the integrity of the lab. Why should I have been surprised?
