There is a gem lab & institute in Taiwan claimed they are associated with a gemological institute registered with California Department of Education they established in 1991 called Gemological Institute International (GII). After several years of establishment with about a hundred TV shows, the R.O.C. Gem Grading Laboratory is getting assigned a lot of court cases for the government in Taiwan, as well as doing a lot of lab works and "re-certification" for GIA reports (i.e. if the stone matches with the GIA reports, etc.), which is fine to me.
The problem is, recently they are giving out gemologist destinations for their students who have finished all 5 course, with a G.G. initial (GII Gemologist). This will definitely created a confusion in the industry with the other G.G. graduated from GIA.
First of all, does anyone living in California area heard of a school called "Gemological Institute International"? The first time I heard of this school is actually from a book published by GII, borrowed from Richard T. Liddicoat Gemological Library at Carlsbad about jadeite...
