Hello,

I recently registered into a couple of classes via distance education to pursue the most sought after GG status. I’m super psyched and nervous at the same time to be starting this program. I gave it some serious thought for about a year and decided to finally sign up. Once I complete the GG hopefully I can extend my knowledge and take another course on campus. Looking forward to learn all things gem and jewelry and learning new things through this forum.

Does anyone have tips in maximizing the success of learning through distance education? Never taken any online courses before.

The current GIA online courses are excellent.
Ask questions when you don't understand something.
Have a relationship with your appointed GIA person.

Exactly what Barbra said, when completing your distance courses, don't hesitate to contact your primary instructor (or any of the distance instructors should your primary be unavailable) for assistance. Sometimes distance students feel like they are all on their own when they get stuck or have questions on the course materials, but this is definitely not the case. Keep in mind that there are numerous resources available for you with the sole purpose of helping you to succeed.

Have fun!

Thanks for the advice & encouragement. It's a little strange studying online and not in a class environment but I think I'm getting a hang of things. Definitely requires lots of perseverance.

Here goes!

Once you see how well the information is presented and easy to grasp, chances are you won't get out of your PJs for days at a time.
