I don't know if this is a correct question to ask here but :
Some of my french students might be interested in pursuing their gemological studies through the GIA.
The reason is, they might be be unable to complete their diploma in France, because for some reason, our school has decided to close next year the evening sessions they attend (and where I teach, by the way )
So they consider carrying on with the GIA.

Their questions are :
Does there exist something like distant training ?
What would be the cost (very, very roughly speaking ?)
Is there something like an equivalence from school to school (at the end of the year they will have been taught 140 hours of basic training, theoretical and practical and will miss another 200 hours approximately to complete their cursus). Of course I am well aware that the programs might be different.
Many thanks !

Many thanks ! As I recall the distance Program offers their students some years to complete their lessons

Thanks Barbra.
Do you know how E-learning works ?
I suppose the distant courses have to be mingled with presential lab work somewhere at some point ?

As I understand it, the course work is now online. Used to be in giant binders.
The student needs to take lab classes at a GIA site.
With colored stones, you are sent boxes of stones to ID...I can't remember the total now. You also need to take a lab. It's always a good idea to take the lab before starting to ID the gems.

And, it's so FUN you can do it even if you are a busy, working mom with a family. :D

Thank you Barbra.
I for one prefer having lab classes with student mates than cooking pasta between two ID ! :)
