Q: Is Gemology Tools Professional appraisal software?
A: No, GT Pro is almost entirely about gemstones and gemology with all the tools a professional gemologist/appraiser uses in their day-to-day work. It is the perfect adjunct (IMHO) to appraisal software such as Quantum Leap's PAS or GemWorld International's Guide Appraisal Software.

Good question, Frank. Yes, it is possible to add your own pictures. You can this both for general gemstone pictures or pictures you want to add to the inclusion gallery. All you have to know is how to use Windows file Explorer (not the browser) and making text files with Notepad (included with every copy of Windows). And, of course, the instructions from me, which, coincidentally, I've been writing in the past couple of days.

Although this is not technically appraisal software, the program has functions for weight estimation for mounted diamonds and color that is excellent.

I am using this program every day.

I guess I should add that there is a rudimentary text generator which will provide the basic description of a piece of jewelry. This is good if you use a word processor for appraising. As I developed the custom piece calculator (which was done at the request of several users) the text generator was added. It's extremely simple and I really can't imagine anyone using it extensively but it will output the info to your word processor where you can then edit it the way you want it.

Greetings Bill

I just got your GT Pro and love it BIG TIME!!!!

When will you make an updated CD of this Product?

The reason I ask is that I would be willing to give you my complete Library of Photomicrographs of around 3,000 photos you can pick and choose from if you want.

Depending on when you do an update I’m sure I’ll have more photomicrographs as I shoot on a daily basis.

I also have several ideas for another project(s) you might be interested in that would be and could be used as another CD-Driven tool(s) to help Appraisers!!!!!!

Chat with you later

Hi Cat,

Thanks for the kind words about GT Pro. After 12 years it is finally taking shape. If you have any questions at all, post them here and I'll answer as soon as possible.

Hi LaShawn,

Thanks so much for the offer of your 3000 inclusion photos. My mouth is still open. My wife says I can't stop drooling. She thinks it's her good cooking but not this time!

I agree. I've been using different versions of this software over the years & I think its indispensible.

Hi all! Just tried out the demo-I was on the phone with my sister, and playing with the demo. I must have stopped talking (actually forgot I was on the phone), because she asked what had me so rapt?! Fun to play with, great to re-test my gem knowledge with the refresher course!

One question...does anyone have any idea where I can get the outline 'maps' (I'm lacking the proper words) you use in appraisals where you map the inclusions, etc,? I used to use a rubber stamp, but only had emerald cut, round, pear and oval...now, I need some maps of the other cuts as well as the 'standards'. Any ideas?
