...I'm curious as to how many members use stacking software; and, if so, what packages do they use.

I generally use CombineZP and HeliconFocus. I am trying out PICOLAY and Zerene. CombineZP and Picolay are free, while HeliconFocus and Zerene are comercial paclages, both of which are reasonably priced and come with a 30 day free trial.

Please let me know if you use such, what you use, and compare products if you can.

Thanks!

When I use stacking software I use CZP. Tried Helicon but went back to CZP :)

I've never had any luck with stacking software, somehow I just can't seem to get it right.

Helicon Focus here. I tried CZP once but the comparison with HF resuts wasn't so good, and also the interface was too complicate.

Thanks, Alberto. Interesting, Conny and Egor. I, too like CZP, but find myself more often than not going to Helicon because of its relative ease of use and speed, though not much faster than CZP. Helicon interfaces smoothly with HeliconFilter which offers some interesting features along with complete, albeit not so friendly, image processing features.

Lukeness, I can't imagine why you are having such problems. Could be very misaligned images, images of unequal sizes, too few images in your stack (for photomicrographs, only slightly change focus and snap a lot of pics) or the stacking routine employed. If you are confident that your images are aligned, in CZP, run "Do Stack." If that works, try one, or both of the "pyramid" routines. BTW Good results can be achieved with only a few pics depending on the subject such a singled out inclusion.

I'm probably just too impatient. I've never really done it with a lot of images in the stack and the quality of the original shots versus the outputs just didn't seem worth the additional time. I've always been very happy with the images taken on the Wild as they are, although I can see the benifit of stacking. It's something I need to revisit when I have more time available though, at the moment I hardly have a gap to take inclusion pics.

The last two or three version of Photoshop have a focus stacking subroutine built in. However IF you only want focus stacking the other options my be better for you.
