Here's a new one on me. This company has a software program they claim can effectively communicate HTS with calibrated repeatable values coded into the system for use as a communication tool between labs, dealers, jewelers e.t.c..

I don't have the technical background to offer a professional opinion but, the premise is at least interesting.

JB, why don't you get the trial software and give us a review?

Well, there are some things I don't understand about their system. I understand that you can adjust the HTS and lock the coordinates for any particular stone, then relay these same color coordinates to another person using the same system and theorhetically obtain the exact calibrated color results.

What I don't know, is this system initiated by a visual comparison of an actual gemstone against the color adjusted image of their software display. It's that human element of the examiner that seems to creep back in.

Plus you would need several users of this same system using the same stone for comparative analysis of it's accuracy.

A curiosity for now.

Computer color is extremely difficult. I dabbled with it for a couple of months but when moved to any other computer monitor the colors were always slightly to greatly different. Even when profiled and calibrated using Adobe Gamma. Monitors are just too different. For me it was just too risky.

Have any of you used that "spider" device that you attach to your monitor and it views colors as they are really displayed and uses THAT to calibrate your output?
