Gemology Tools Pro v. 8.0.0, pre-release version
http://gemologytools.com/

Can the best get better? Emphatically, YES! This is a must-buy package for enthusiasts, students, and pro's alike which now sports corresponding spectra, with comments, for numerous gemstones. Many additional gemstone, inclusion, and mineral images are incorporated into this already "best in show" body of work.

Quick, concise, complete. Accurate, accessible, and all-encompassing, the software is stable – the most stable that I have seen – and zips through its databases, returning your info as fast as you can click. The layout is so logical and intuitive that an eight year old can navigate it with ease. You never get lost in the data and screens as is so common with software that calls so much information for so many categories from such extensive databases.

Rather that list and comment on GTP's features here, I implore you to peruse http://gemologytools.com/ where you can find a no-hype, under-stated, tantalizing description of the features of the software. After seeing the features described there, use of the software will delight you beyond your expectations. Just download the Demo.

I must mention the new Spectrum feature. Bill Wise added a spectrum feature in this new release. As are the other features in this package, use of the feature is intuitive and logical. If a spectrum is available for a selected gemstone or mineral, a large button at the bottom of the page lights up, illuminating a grayed-out spectrum in full color. Further, let's assume that you are reading the spectrum of an unknown blue stone. Simply go to the “Separator” and type “color” into the color box. A new box of small spectra appears neatly within the separator which, with a mouse click, pops up a large scrollable box with the possible spectra for the color. Simply match your spectra to one in the box and, voila, you have it!

This is a software package that you cannot live without. Our esteemed resident scientist, gemologist, and web master/site owner (as in this website, not diamond) extraordinaire , Barbra Voltaire, comments elsewhere in the forum that she places the program in usage everyday. You will, too.

Note: STUDENTS, hint: get yours NOW!

OOPS! I don't think I'll get hired. The above is a review of a pre-release version of the upcoming final release version of the software. Apparantly I wasn't clear!

Upon review, my comments are so positive that it seems like a press promo. However, it represents my honest personal opinion.

OK, I modified the review to make it clearer that it is a review of the pre-release version. In the title. I changed "pre-release", to read "pre-release version".

MoDo, I'll bet he might even have written an "Ode to GTP" that he hasn't shared with us,

Yes, Ux4 that was a great review. Thanks. I have a few things to say about the program:

1) It won't be released until approximately September 1st (maybe a little before maybe a little after).

2) There is going to be a price increase when the new version is released. This decision was made after consulting with a business advisor. However, if you have never purchased GT Pro, buy the 7.2 version before the new version is released and you will get the 8.0 version for free when it comes out without having to pay for the increase. If you are a previous owner the current update rules apply (see http://www.gemologytools.com/html/update_policy.html ).

3) I'm looking for more good inclusion photos. If you have any that I use you will receive the latest version for free, any time you ask for it (this, of course, applies to all contributors, past and present).

Last, a lot of people have said good things about my program on this forum and I really appreciate it. I have learned many things I didn't know about gemology here.

I can't say enough nice things about GTP, the gemstone separator alone is worth the "price of admission". The photos are fabulous as well. Every time I launch the program, I find some new little aspect of it. Great work, Bill!

Thanks to everyone who has said nice things about GT Pro! Much appreciated. I've been extremely busy and I know I haven't put up a message in a while but I was shocked to get an email saying I haven't posted in 6 months!! Wow. I need to check in more often.

Oh, I guess I should have checked my history. Talk about not having the time (or was it just laziness?).

Post subject:  not on the list!

South Korea is not on the list of "in use" countries! Does this mean I could be the first??? Is there a discount for that? Think of the exposure! :)

The gts pro is absolutely fabulous ,even if your not very computer literate , the program is the easy program , and it s fun to play with , tons of great info , its hard to believe he was able to improve it , i cant say enough about how much it has helped me ,and like others doing the gemology course on line its a great asssurance your doing thing correct , too bad i cant use it with the 20 stone id test , i wouldnt worry if i could . this program is as important as books are . so even if the price goes up its well worth it  keep up the great work bill

Thanks for the kind words Dragonstek. This is really a work in progress (for about 14 years now!).
