Being that heavily included would not be typical of a synthetic amethyst, though I imagine it could be done. The crystal form is, however, artificially polished rather than naturally formed.

Seems about the right quality for $4, I don't think anyone would go to the trouble of producing synthetic amethyst for $4 a pop. Crackle dyed? Maybe, although I would expect to see more colour around the cracks.
