Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum so not 100% sure if I’m posting this correctly.
I bought this stone from a jeweller but he doesn’t know what kind of stone it is because he bought it over 2 years ago. It weights around 0.9g or roughly over 4 carats. I’ve included a photo with no direct light on the stone and a few with direct light on the stone. If anyone can give any suggestions on what they may think it is, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

Sorry I noticed that I wrote 9g. I meant to type 0.9g for the weight.

I don't see the connection. Just because you bought something 2 years ago, you don't know what it is, and kept no track of it ? A strange sort of jeweller.
From the picture only, it could be nearly anything.
By the way, 9 g is not 4 carats - 9 g should be 45 carats. I don't think your stone weighs 9 g.

The fluorescence in the cracks looks like it may have been filled with some sort of polymer.
What did you pay this forgetful jeweler for the mystery stone?

It's hard to tell from the pic but my first thought was low grade opal.
Do you get any flashes of color as you move it around under a bright light?

The stone is faceted. Yes a curiosity indeed.
Where do you live Sharmeen8?
Perhaps one of our members is close and could help you.

I liked how it looked and payed £30. I live in the North east in England. And there is no colour change when I put light onto it.
It is faceted and Smooth, and isn’t translucent. I know that’s not a lot of information to go on. Sorry guys. I was just curious what it could be.

I’ve added another photo with no direct light.

Is the stone white or blue?

The stone is a light grey colour. But when it doesn’t have direct light on it, it does appear to be a darker shade of grey.

Thank you everyone who have replied to my post ☺️

You can try starting eliminate possibilities by doing a simple "Specific gravity" test, using a scale and simple calculation.
you can search this forum\youtube to see examples of how this is done.
based on photos,it can be almost anything.
