Color change spinel?
I cut some old rough I had collected long ago and sent the finished stones off to a lab for ID. Came back as Sri Lankan natural spinel.
I took photos of one of my stones, forgive me, they're pretty bad.
Both blue (fluorescent light) and green (incandescent light) colors look washed out in the photo but in real life are more vivid. The blue is like top sapphire, the green is more like rich emerald.
In direct sun over my shoulder, the stone sparkles rich blue and rich green flashes. Quite pretty.
The inclusions are rounded crystals, some are solid apatite, some are filled with fluid and contain a bubble and sometimes a tiny crystal. Lots of rounded two and three phase inclusions. Also, some inclusions fluoresce and some pop brightly under crossed polarizers. All of the inclusions sparkle like tiny stars while the facets give larger and brighter flashes. A very nice effect.
I haven't found any similar examples on the web.
Is this considered a color change spinel?
