Does this look like Chinese writing stone?
Sorry for the poor pictures, I can't seem to get a good shot of it.
I hope my camera isn't going out.
The white does have a slight pinkish tone to it but not as much as it appears in the photos
The hardness is low around opal
The sludge from cutting is light brown

Thanks, Jim

I can't tell much from your images but this link shows images of the material that usually goes by the name of Chinese Writing Stone.

The curved inclusions I can make out in your images look more like a jasper that goes by several names: Coquina, Script, etc.

I have seen that coquina jasper referred to as arabic writing stone before. This does have a similar appearance.

Thanks guys, I was unfamiliar with coquina jasper (nice stuff) but after looking at pictures I don't think that is what I've got.
The stone itself is black not the brown I see in the coquina.

I made another razor handle and plan on selling it but I don't want to misrepresent the stone.

I took a better picture of the razor handle outside maybe it will help with the ID.

Has anyone cut Chinese writing stone before? Does it leave a brown sludge in the tray?

Thanks, Jim
