Hi,
Now I know that I should not be posting photos only but I just want a few guesses as to what this stone might be.
Under a daylight spotlight it looks to have a reddish/blue hue, however it is very dark and not much light seems to pass through.
I can tell you that it is set in a lovely looking hand crafted Silver (Lower Shank) & White Gold (Upper Shank/Gallery/Setting) acid tested ring, and looks to have some age.
I will be taking it to a jewellery soon enough for evaluation but would be interested in your thoughts first.
Also if anyone can hazard a guess at the age of the ring (No hallmarks) etc, please feel free.

On my monitor the 3rd and 4th pic of the stone shows some green but the last shows red, were the shots taken in different light? If so it might be alexandrite or a synthetic. It seems strange to me to have part of the shank in silver and the rest in white gold. When you get it to someone who can really check it out please come back and let us know.

If the stone is different colors using the same light source it rules out alex, both synthetic and natural. Is the stone backed or open? If open, can you shine a light through it and report back with any additional characteristics? Thanks
