I purchased these pretty little garnets several years ago as spessartine. They certainly have high spessartine content but have a pinkish/brown tinge indicating substantial presence of other garnet species.

I'm wondering if anyone recognizes the source for these little crystals? They seem to be uniformly rather small, about 4 to 5.5 mm. on average and will cut bright little rounds.

Source anyone?

I saw some similar ones for sale once, said to be from Oyo, Nigeria.
Looks like great stuff. Wonder what's moxed in--pyrope? Grossular?

I think Oyo is correct. The source was identified once and I forgot to label the baggie.
Can't be sure of the garnet mix but my guess would be pyrope-almandine which would account for the pinkish-brown hue. I could be wildly wrong. But I think they'll yield small but nice gems.
