I found this carving a few days ago and would appreciate some help getting me started in identifying what it's made of. The sculpture itself is 5" round, 2.5" thick and weighs 3lbs.

I have seen both Jade and Serpentine look like that. Standard testing should make the separation straight forward.

The chipped area looks granular, so unlikely to be jade. It could be calcite (often erroneously called "onyx") or gypsum ("alabaster"). Testing the hardness (https://geology.com/minerals/mohs-hardness-scale.shtml) will give you a good idea of what it cannot be.

Thanks for help! I've got a starting point now to help me identify it.
