Perhaps you could add demantoid garnet to your list of possibilities. The stone is not necessarily the original one in the ring. The exposed shoulders look suspiciously undamaged. Last month I handled a very odd demantoid, distinctly birefringent and with multiple lamellar twinning (but under crossed polars it had spectacular interference colours, unlike your stone).

Yes, what would be great and I have tried to get in contact with Mr Forsberg. I was hoping to submit this stone (and the pink sapphire), Unfortunately it seems that Mr Forsberg is unavailable to me.

My scale has arrived and I was able to measure the stones SG. I followed Starlas video tutorial. I calculated SG from both gram and carat and tried to get the water the temperature as close to 4 degees celcius as I could (7 degrees C). SG = 4.02~4.15
To be sure I did it right, I also measured SG of some known stones. Quartz (amethyst and rock crystal), synthetic sapphire and synthetic spinel. All SG results were equal to values specified in various SG lists for each specimen. In other words, I'm fairly certain I did it right.
With these results I decided to take a chance, spend some money and get it certified. I will post comfirmed ID when it arrives.
