I finally got my polishing issues figured out and was finishing a rather large piece of quartz (13mm). I'm using a gemmaster 2 with the 45 degree mount. I installed the mount flat to the 1200 lap and went to cut the table. I could tell I was off target in a front to back way so the cheater wouldn't be of help. So I tried rotating the stone in the mount and managed to cut it but I never got the transition out in the polish and I shouldn't had rotated it. Any tips of what I should have done would be great???

If I’m understanding you correctly it’s a mast height issue.

When cutting the table, if it’s cutting on the edge close to the mast, you need to increase the elevation. If it’s cutting the edge furthest from the mast, lower the elevation. Rotating the stone won’t help, it’ll just shift the edge that’s being under/over cut.

Left/right require use of the cheater, but that doesn’t seem to be up your problem in this case.

This is an excellent lesson in getting to know your machine...what he^^^^ said is exactly correct...100 or so stones and you be able to just touch the stone to the cutting lap and make the adjustments with out really tho king too much...
When I first started it was helpful sit back and use my hands to represent the lap and the dip and imagine a vertical line and visualalize the relationships before making adjustments

Ok thanks, I see what you are saying about angle vs. mast height. I always try to just touch the stone and take baby steps since this was the last cut on the stone. And I was too far away from the back of the stone so it makes since that I should have drop the mast to cut towards the back of the stone.

Thanks so much for the help!!!

Much appreciated!!
