They were available at the SGA conference....and I bought one. Not expensive: under £20. It's packed snugly away in my suitcase. When I get home, I'll inspect it and post what I can about it. Might be a Zelco Flex Light.......

Is it possible the difference in prices is because of the differences in the lights themselves? The light offered in Canada says it's a xenon bulb, while the light offered in the US says it's a Krypton bulb. Since I'm not up to snuff on the differences in light bulbs, I did a search and found this:
Krypton
Krypton bulbs are part of the halogen and incandescent family of bulbs. They are filled with krypton gas which allows a longer life span than the xenon bulb. Two drawbacks to krypton bulbs are that they do not burn as brightly as xenon bulbs and generate more heat.
Xenon
In contrast, xenon bulbs, filled with xenon gas, offer a brighter light output than the krypton bulbs. Their heat generation is minimal in comparison, allowing a more efficient use of power. In addition, the output light is whiter than the krypton bulb's production.
From these descriptions, I think I'd prefer the xenon bulb. Anyone here know if there really is a large enough difference to warrant the price difference and whether the spectrum would be effected? *cough, cough ... Gene ... cough, cough*

Thanks for the offer Barbra, but I think I'll pass for now. I've got a reasonably good light and I probably shouldn't be buying more stuff
As for Krypton vs Xenon - for the bulb to vary $40 between the two types, methinks this is a red herring... I could imagine if they were something like those super-high-power projector lamps, but not a battery-powered flashlight.
It's one of those wonders of how an imaginary line impacts the real world!
