This is so very interesting! I think I will go buy some equipment to take a good look at my gems.

Another very useful aspect of the Zelco is that there are LED bulbs that fit directly in the holder. Even more brightness but longer battery life and if you need the incandescent spectrum the bulb can be switched back in seconds. A good buy.

Thank you so much for this site and for these videos! I can not tell you how much difficulty I am having with the spectroscope. I can not find the flexible light she is using. Can you recommend something else? Many thanks!

My Zelco came with a GIA pocket kit, perhaps you could try them. On the other hand try with a flashlight, you should still be able to find an incandescent model about (try Maglight), but remember to use some blue tack to block out all extraneous light.

Holy Absorption lines Batman! Putty on the Mag Light. Never in a million years would I have thought of that. I have tried it and I still need to work on my technique, but boy is that a tremendous help. Many, many thanks!

That is the beauty of this site, you have immediate access to the equivalent of many years accumulated experience. Good luck!

Hi friends!
I have bought the chelsea filter from China.
But I can't understand whether it works.
I have a natural blue sapphire and synthetic red ruby, but I can't see any reaction under the filter!
I'm not having any emerald now.
Or all my gems are fake, or the filter does not work?
Of course I have read how to use it, but I have the troubles.
This filter is almost opaque, is it right?
Are there some methods to understand whether the filter is fake or not?
Thanks!
