Hello, I'm looking at doing the foundation gemmology course at Gem-A (distance education) and eventually the diploma course. I live in Canada so if labs are required in person that could be an issue for me. Has anyone done this course? Did you have to travel to attend labs?

Attend the labs, you will learn more than you thought possible and have a firm grip of a tutor that you can pester with your queries non-stop (no to mention a lot of fun with your fellow students). You can do it at a distance, but it is very much second best. See if they do week or week-end concentrated lab courses.

You need to find your nearest allied centre. I did my foundation lab in Versailles and my diploma lab in Holland. as stated you will learn more than your tutor can ever teach you by mail.
