first pic cant tell if those white flecks are in the stone or just unpolished? anyway I thought some type of jadeite second and third are agate fourth cant see clearly but looks like either (and you will laugh at this!) jade or chert!!

Many people tumble rocks and gems they find as hobbies with their children and do these simple inexpensive types of jewelry to show them off. Hundreds of Rock and Mineral clubs do the same for and with their youth members.

hey i was just throwing that out there to see what kind of a crowd visits this site...and for the record i have a huge rock collectiin which contains a vast assortment of chert! why? because I THINK THE COLORS ARE BEAUTIFUL. so i understand about individual tastes etcand ofcourse.no offense meant to anyone!

Chert is cool! Most of the chert we find here in the Bay Area is Radiolarian Ribbon Chert, a biochemical chert which was formed when the siliceous skeletons of marine plankton dissolved during diagenesis, with silica being precipitated from the resulting solution. It has found it's way to the surface as the result of magnificent geosynclinal deformation. Here is a wondrous outcrop of folded radiolarian chert at Hidden Cove.
