Hi Sashaas, nice country. As stated it does not look like quartz. Don't let that put you off, it may be something interesting, it is already more interesting than quart.
Do you know what kind of stone was being extracted at the quarry, this may give some clues as well.

Might be a matter of technique. A brick red flame usually indicates calcium or cadmium. Of course, for a proper flame test, you'd dip a platinum wire in the "fizz", then hold it in the flame. I monitored the qualitative analysis lab in school, and haven't forgotten quite all of it
