Hi Heidi and welcome.
I can think of 3 likely things they may be:
Nephrite
Green chert
Serpentine

If you shine a (very small) light behind a bead, nephrite will always have translucent edges.
If you take a small pen knife and try to scratch a bead (hold the bead securely in your hand and just try a small scratch) the serpentine will scratch, the other 2 not.

Report back. :D

Hi,

Thank you for the response, I have shone a torch it's not translucent as such but I can see swirls inside.
I scratched with a pen knife and it didn't leave a mark.

So it must be one of the other two I'm presuming ?

Kind regards

Haidee

Swirls? Don't like the sound of that.
Swirls make me think of glass.
Try to get a close-up of your best "swirl".

Possibly David, but I've seen way more serpentine, nephrite, chert and glass beads. Odds often swing in the most likely direction.

We were recently sent a tumbled sample of "brazilian jade" this color to test by a local dealer that ended up being epidote, so it's certainly a possibility anyway.

I stand corrected.
Brazilian jade, huh? Did you ace it with the Raman?

It took a few tries to get it positioned right but it did scan for us. It was a case where we were pretty sure once we held it in the hand but it was nice to get spectral confirmation.

A curious observation.
Most all the beads have a light streak in a similar place on the beads.
Note my hot pink lines.
What do you make of that?

I googled some epidote beads. Yep...they do look similar
Image
Some even have light bands.....but all in different places.

Do you have any other thoughts, Stephen and David, as to how to identify these unknowns?

Look at this new post:

So what do you think of the lines in the beads pictured above?

The lines are just weird. epidote can have those lines, but why would the beads all seem to have them in the same place?

Is it a rock at all? Does it feel cool on your lip?

Agreed.
I presumed the beads to be some sort of stone. I think now, I was wrong.
