Post subject:  Please help me identify Pretty Blue gemstones

Hello.

This is my first post on here and am always open to finding the neatest things and learning something new. I was on a hike in Palm Desert, CA (for several miles up and around). And on this hike covering lots of ground, there was was in one particular area ONLY (within 5 - 7 feet radius) I dug up a few of these (after seeing 3 just barely surfacing) - - which is what led me to keep looking for more. Such amazing pretty blue colors they give off!!

Please help me identify what these are. Thank you.

Very odd. The highly rounded, polished surface combined with the deep and uniform color suggests that they are not natural. I would guess glass, and there are a few quick tests to tell. One is to hold one in front of a laptop monitor and rotate it. If it changes colors it can't be glass, if it stays the same color glass gets a lot more likely. Another is to touch one to your lip, and compare how cool it feels to a known crystal (eg a quartz crystal). Crystals conduct heat better than glass so they feel much cooler. The last thing is to look at then closely for spherical bubbles. A magnifying glass and sightlighting them with a strong flashlight will help with that. Natural gems don't have big spherical bubbles.

Thanks for your reply Stephen.

*All the stones are cold via the "lip touch test".
*Not all, but some do have spherical bubbles. And just a side Q please:
does the same go with jade then (with these spherical bubbles)? I have a jade bangle (it is cold to touch, it is heavy, IT DOES have bubbles within).

*And (back to these blue stones) when I hold and roll it around and around (in front of a laptop monitor on) the blue-ish color generally stays the same in the center core (however the outer core has teal colors that come out).

Thanks for your help with these  Neat to learn this stuff!

Here is a pic of 1/4" fire glass. The tones of blue can vary.
