It is with great sadness I'd like to announce Dr. Hanneman passed away on December 12, 2020. His legacy will live on forever!

Hi all,

I am a very new Faceter and to understand the faceting guides I use Gem Cad Studio. I being trying to add the datavaul2 which I downloaded from http://www.gemcutter.com/dv_prg.htm I loaded the list to gem cut studio. the folders load but they are all empty. I use gem cut for Mac. Can someone help me set this up correctly?

Thanks!!

Datavue is a program designed for use with GemCad not Gem Cut Studio.

Open GemCad, select the Datavue icon for searching select a design and open. Then save the file as an asc or gem file to folder then you can open in GemCut Studio.

That version of DataVue you downloaded has the designs stripped from the databases due to issues decades ago.

The original fully-loaded database is still floating around but I don't know of any public sources for it.

A better suggestion with more and newer designs would be to check out the website set up by Robert Strickland (creator of GemCAD) at:
http://facetdiagrams.org/

Not all designs have the cutting instructions but it's probably the most comprehensive list of designs in one place.

Good luck!

As Allan stated their was an early version that you had to copy the new folder into after you installed, I will take a look and see if I still have a copy from R.Strickland.

Sorry @vcornejo you only have 1 post so your not able to private yet. I do not feel comfortable attaching here, but I will share the folder with you for use in GemCad, as Robert Strickland provided the folder to me as he would probably to you if you contact him. Purchase GemCad and I'm pretty sure he will. And remember this folder is not direct access to the asc files, as said they were removed due to copyright issues of the time, but the updated DataVue2 version to use in GemCad.
