well, i personally wouldn't like someone asking me why my prices are 5x my competitors' I know that good designs cost more than simpler ones, but 4grams silver for $60+$12 if i want it resized to 7US is...not the price for casted jewelry. But you're right, I might call them to clear things up

Yup--ignore the catalog prices, or read the disclaimer that says "based on a $25 silver market" or whatever, and use that to cross reference with other catalogs. Your best bet is to hit up the website for current pricing. (Let's not start up the generation conversation again, haha)
The showcase feature is so you can give your customers a custom URL, like www.stuller.com/baelzebub. Then they'll see marked-up prices (selected by you, assuming you change the defaults) so they're not asking you why you're charging them more than the components' sum price. Unless you're specifically viewing your own showcase--it's not the default, you have to go to the Stuller Showcase menu (upper right) and select "Enter Showcase Mode", and you leave it by clicking the "Exit showcase" link (again, upper right). You'll also see showcase in the page title, e.g., mine says "Upcyclist: Stuller Showcase" (I can't remember if I changed it from the default, but it should look different regardless).

Hey Robin, may I ask who you use for Tripps resellers? I am in Canada also and would like to order a couple settings without it costing me too much for shipping.
Sure, but keep in mind they're not strictly a reseller, I just know they carry a lot of the same settings. And it's still in the U.S. but they have a shipping option that works out to about 15.00 Canadian, which is less than most offer. It's http://www.jamminggems.com The other thing I like about them is they have a re-size option for rings and they'll do it down to quarter sizes if you ask them. Selection isn't vast, but it's perfect for someone like me who is just learning how to set stones and such. Truthfully, I'd probably buy from Stuellers if I qualified for an account with them, but I don't.

Excellent thanks Robin I will check them out. I also definitely would not qualify for Stuller settings sadly. Did you find the Tripps settings easy to use? It will be my first time trying. I was planning on getting some Swarovski crystals to practice with before I set one of my actual gems!
Some are easier than others, some of the settings just aren't very well made, some of them are great. They have a tendency to make prongs on some of the basic settings too long so they're weak , so even though they're pre notched it would be a good idea to practice cutting them down and notching them again yourself. The site I linked are gradually introducing their own better quality settings as well.
Also, they carry synthetic stones that you might find are cheaper than crystal and will likely hold up better in a settiing. The synthetic rubies are really quite nice and they're less than a dollar per carat.
Most of the precious metal houses also do settings, custom as well as stock...there are also findings foundaries out there, just do an internet search...one that I have used, and like, is Pasternak...

I'm looking at some crazy prices - 4gr ring setting in .925 for $64! I'm lkinda confused...are those retail prices?
Their prices are kind of confusing since they offer so many options in terms of having the piece set with stones and finished or just a base setting in two different kinds of silver. I just looked and their prices on mountings only range from about $4/gram to about $10/gram. Some of the settings are shown with stones already set as the default and they are often in the price range you've mentioned. I would make sure that you are specifying what you want using their website as there are lots of check boxes that may not be filled out the way you want in their default configuration.
One thing to also keep in mind is that none of the manufacturers change their molds for silver pieces. This means that a marginally thin setting in gold will be WAY too thin in silver and probably won't offer adequate durability. The moral? Make sure you only buy heavier settings in silver, especially if you're going to be setting stones in it.

Yes, I found that out the hard way on a few occasions.
