I've been thinking about trying metalsmithing myself for a while... Is there a good short course (possibly with some flexibility: I have another job I cannot quit ) you can recommend, where I could learn the basics of silver/gold-smithing (and basic stone setting) around the Bay Area? Something rather basic, targeted at amateurs with a good motivation, will to learn how to do a proper job, but no will to start a business in the field.
I saw a couple of short courses advertised around, Walnut Creek and Oakland, if I remember correctly, but I've no idea if they are worth anything. So if someone had some first or second hand experience and he/she is willing to share it, I'd be very grateful.
