I'm very glad to be part of this forum and anxious to dig in to all the valuable information I am sure is posted in here. I am an all around geology enthusiast. My love is not just for gems, but crystals, rocks, pretty much anything that you can dig up from the earth :) It started when I was about 5-7 picking agates after rain.

In the recent months I became very interested in jewelry design and I have bought beads and stones and crystals by the truckload! I have learned alot of techniques but I know I have so much to learn yet, about design techniques, and about the stones themselves, etc.

If I could have my way, if life weren't in the way I would love to attend an official jewelry design school but that is not possible for me at this time but I'm wondering if someone can direct me. There are many books you can buy, beading patterns, things for beginners, its limitless the amount of material you can buy. I'm looking for good recommendations on books I could buy/read to really learn from the ground up. Like lets say I hypothetically started this "school" tomorrow, what text books would they give me? I'm guessing they are not the same books you buy on Amazon or at Barnes and Nobles. I really eager to learn all I can and will be reading through alot of information on this site as time permits.

Thanks!

Barbara :P

If you want to learn, you may do it here on GO.
You ask and GO members give you answers.

You have to know the materials and the standards of the branch.
I would recommend the CIBJO Blue Book http://www.cibjo.org/introduction-to-the-blue-books/ for to get the informations about pearls (organic), gemstones (materials natural, synthetic and artificial) and precious metals.

Also you can read GIA news refering gemstones.
For example https://www.gia.edu/gems-gemology/fall- ... en-jadeite

You will appreciate the thematics.
Be welcome.
