Alan Revere is retiring after 40 years running his namesake jewelry-making school, the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts.
He is also putting the San Francisco–based school, which offers up to 100 classes in jewelry making, up for sale.
“Many aspects of the jewelry world have changed, but the essential skills and standards remain the same,” he said in a statement. “This is a unique opportunity for someone who has the experience and vision to guide the Academy forward.”
The Academy’s full program of classes will continue as scheduled through the end of 2017.
Revere established the Revere Academy in San Francisco in 1979. Since then the school has trained more than 10,000 students.
He has also designed pieces and written seven books on jewelry. His latest, Professional Stonesetting, was released earlier this year.
For the future, Revere plans to roam the west in his Volkswagen camper.
“The journey continues, just in a different direction,” he said.
