Hi Stephen, if you get one of the sintered laps that Gearloose is selling, you could easily cut a groove arond the crystal. I must try it with one of mine!

Finished this one with a simple wire-wrapped bail. Gem silica in 14k white gold. I like how my brother's photos turned out, gets the color much better than mine did.

There is a lot of custom jewelry here & very well done so Im adding 3 custom items to the list, 1st is a bixbite/emerald pendent, next is an opal wrapped in 18kt yellow gold, & the last is the emerald pendent in 18kt yellow gold, the emerald pendent is neat in that as it was being built, I noticed 'flex' in the frame getting to be an issue, so I had the frame 'stress corrected' at certain points to reduce flex & give a more stable base work, for daily wearing the item is sturdy enough to wear & handle- 8)

So - this is the first time I have posted with something from my day job.

14K pink gold, 19K white. 1.0 mm diamonds in the crown, 1.4 mm in the band. 7.5 mm / 1.72 ct morganite center. Will be used for an engagement ring.

I had to source the morganite rough, cut the center gem, design and 3-d print the models, alloy the metal and cast, assemble, set, and finish.

Sometimes it is fun - sometimes it isn't. If I have to make one more halo ring...........

That opal looks Ethiopian to me. I have one just like it (though a bit larger.)
Love the red beryl.

To add a little info to the origin of the opal, the seller of the stone I bought from, bought the stone, 1 of 3, he bought from the mine owner in Australia around the 1990 yrs. The seller is a 5th gen. stone cutter & knows rough & origins, important to his business. When looking at the stone under a loop or scope, one can see a tightness of the material usually not seen in the Ethiopean material, the initial visuals seem to copy the African stones. The Australian material is a little more stable & hardier in handling, less chance of 'crazing' or cracking as it looses moisture to the air. Many appraisers have verified Australian origin. Please dont take the pic on the post as gosple, just a pic using a cheap camera under not too good lighting, to give the forum an approximate image in the pic. This stone at 14cts+ is the smaller sister stone to a 24ct. opal I didnt buy. That too, a beautiful stone, same origin. The gold work by the same person who does ALL my pendents, again, not a slouch in his work- 8)

Been a little slow around here...

OK - so I got something done for my wife for Christmas this year...

We went on a vacation to northern Idaho this year, dug for star garnet (Emerald Creek) while we were there.

I cut a couple of pieces, came out with a very nice 6-ray gem. Then I spent a late night/early morning faceting an Idaho garnet to go with it.

Here it is - hope she is sentimental about the vacation, 'cuz it isn't the most beautiful piece of jewelry I have made her...

The picture with the bright reddish star is a computer rendering of the piece.

14K gold, and a few small diamonds.

The trillion shows a nice purplish-red, but I am not the best at pictures...
