I will be adding information about the stones as soon as I can between sessions of cutting more tourmaline and life. All the tourmalines were cut by me on a Raytech Shaw platform faceter. The object of the collection and my cutting is to see well cut gems in all the colors tourmaline comes in. Most of the tourmalines have come from Africa with a healthy dose of Afghanistan material. There are quite a few cuprian gems because I was always looking for different colors long before copper was discovered in Mozambique tourmaline.

Thank you for your kind words.

Bruce

Bruce....can I come stare at your pretty babies for the next 6 months? Will you then bury me close to them 'cos I'll drown in my drool? What a beautiful collection! I wish WE had been able to cut ours - we have lots of beautiful ones but almost every one has a window...or two...or three...

Hmmm, I don't think that you're even close to your objective Bruce. Your collection is missing all the ugly ones !

Post subject:  The trueth comes out

The disc of pictures that I sent Barbra, which has over 200 pictures of tourmaline is not truly representative of the collection. The pictures are an attempt to develop an exciting "rainbow" of colors of tourmaline for a book or a poster or just sharing with people over the internet. It is missing many warts.

There are tourmaline in less desirable colors and phenomenon gems like my "Laurellites" (see other posts for details) that are in the collection, but did not make the cut this time. With a photographer, rejuvenated by your enthusiasm and a place to display the pictures, we will have to broaden the sample of colors in tourmaline from the collection, that we weren't really looking to put in a "rainbow".

Still this is probably not enough to approach the collection's goal of color inclusion. Therefor I solicit help from tourmaline loves worldwide. (Please just PM me first) Do you have a piece of reasonably clean facet rough between one and two grams that has not been cut because its color is a bit off or peculiar or ugly etc.? Let me get it from you and if it makes the grade in different, we will cut it, take a picture and post it with the collection. This assumes that Barbra, the kind supporter and the reason for the posting of the pictures on the forum, will assist in this desent into the different depths of tourmaline color.

With her help there will be more. Let the quest continue. Stay tuned.

I've to say that Bruce has a natural gift in writing about tourmalines.
I'm enjoying a lot reading the description of the stones pics he's adding. :)

Progress in cutting and photographing my collection is continuing. Jeff has now taken pictures of over half of my tourmalines. That comes in at over 500 pictures of large and small gems. The rainbow of colors is the key to the collection, not size or rarity. Jeff is busy cleaning up dust spots and back grounds so I don't have new pictures at the moment, but I have good tales that need pictures to tell. They should be coming.
