I am modifying the ease in which someone can add information or pictures to the Gemology Project. Are you already a member?
Would you like to be a contributing member?
Just let me know and I'll have you adding content by the end of the day!
The time for lurking is over....let's all work to make the Gemology Project the greatest source for organized gemological information available online.
Open up some of the topics.
Do you have any info or pictures to add?
Let's get it added.
If you feel completely overwhelmed with the whole WIKI programming thing, just submit your info in the "submission" section or send it directly to me and I'll make sure it gets where it's supposed to be.
Thanks.
even though i'm not a member of the gemology project, i would like to "contribute" in some way if possible? (possibly post pics, general/basic gemology information-with references and credits, of course??)
reason for edit: to add information to post
it would be an excellent "gemmo" (?) learning experience for myself if allowed to contribute in some way.
i received the e-mail this morning, thanks!! i am going to log on at gp in a moment to see if i can "decipher" how to code on the website. if i have any problems, i will enter through the submissions as you mentioned in the first post, okay? (i also would feel alot more comfortable to allow you to read anything i wish to submit before posting on the project since there is alot of misinformation on the internet )
Barbra has also opened an account for me. I am planning to fill in the gaps on the synthetic gem methods. I've started on a page on Flux melt synthesis though I may need help to post it when it's done. I'd like to be shown how to do it so I don't have to keep asking some one else to do it for me. Tim say's he'll help...we plan to open a chat window and he can talk me through it. Maybe other interested parties can meet us in the chat room when we do it so we can all learn at the same time.
After Flux melt I'm going to continue with hydrothermal, Floating point, pulled etc. I only mention this because I'd hate to be working on something at the same time as someone else.
Another thing I've noticed are the red links...these seem to go to pages which have been created but are still empty. (like the visual optics page Barbra mentioned.) These would be easier to fill in since the code can be copied and pasted from a similar page and there are no new pages or links to make.
If everyone who would like to contribute keeps posting hints and tips on this thread then we'll soon have working tutorials everyone can be referred to with full instructions on how to do things.

Hi,
the idea is to give the Gemology Project another boost and to attract as many contributions as possible. Everyones additions may be valuable. It already is a great place to learn about gemology and together we can make it even better!
Frank mentiones the red links. All the pages that have been referred to in other texts but haven't got any info behind them are listed on the page below:
by clicking on the red links you will arrive at the empty pages. You can add your info through the 'submission' link without having an account. Pick a topic you want to get stuck into and share the knowledge!
One of the editors will then dress it up with all the coding required. If you want to add pictures you can do this easily by clicking on the 'upload file' link that is provided in the bottom left corner under the heading 'Toolbox'. After uploading the file you'll arrive at the page that displays the file name and the pic itself. Please add the pic name, including the file extension to the text you submit so that the editor knows that there is illustration with the article.
Please respect copyrights when submitting.
I can't stress enough how useful contributing is. Obviously for others, but as well for the contributor. Research always brings new knowledge to the reseacher and things tend to get stuck in your head better when you are writing about them. So it's a perfect tool to advance your gemmo studies...

Hi,
Geminterest is a good website, but it is in French. They got alot of pictures of absorption spectras and Inclusions. The Gemology Project needs more of that and videos would be nice. It would be nice if there were more in-depth information on the subject of gemology and more on every gemstone. I would love to help but im just a student of gemology.
Mr Calloway
Ps. I love the gemology project and is thankful for website.

I'll be happy to help in any way I can.
If there are pictures needed of anything, or anything else that I'm able to provide for that matter, let me know and I'll do my best to provide something.
