Hi,

In the last few days some of our members have been sending me a lot of great pictures of gemstones and inclusions to be put up on the gemology project.
Thank you very much.

That however presented a new problem. How many images of the same gemstone should be on the main gemstone page?
I would say just "one" as a representation, but I would also say "all" so every possible shade of colour is on there.
Putting all the images on the main gemstone page would make it a very heavy page and slow to download, especially for those with a slow internet connection.
Therefor I'm experimenting a bit.

If you go to the topaz page, then under the first image of Steve there is a link to more topaz images.
That way all the topaz photos are nicely together and the main page still loads fast (the photos page probably not).

The same with inclusions. Maybe it is best to limit the inclusion photos to 3 orso and put the rest in a separate inclusions page. Scroll down the topaz page till you get to the topaz inclusions and click the link.

Is that a graceful solution?

p.s.: everybody, if you have some great inclusion or gemstone images .. please send them to us.

That's a wonderful way to do it, Doos :D . It opens at a good speed and nice to have more images.

I agree, works as a way of doing it. My only problem with the page is that I don't own the pictured pink.

While I'm more at the level of learning from the project text than contributing to it, I do have many fairly good quality gem photos since I'm a jewelry maker. Most are of set stones, but I have also been photographing some unset ones lately. The project is welcome to any and all of my pics.

Do you prefer unset stone photos only? Also, I use a natural background as it's the only way I found personally to get the color of the gems accurate....would that be okay?

Just let me know if you can use them and if so how to submit! Also any photos you might be looking for in particular.

Your pictures are super.
Check out the Gemology Project (link on left) and see what could use a lovely new picture.

Thanks.

The Gemology Project is a wiki.
It is interactive and all members can add content.
Why don't you join and let me know if you get confused.
It's not too difficult. :D
I'll be looking for your registration!

Thank you, Morning Dove! It's a constant learning curve, like everything.

Barbara, I'm pretty sure I can figure out the wiki. What I can't seem to do is request a new account. Every time I click the submit button, it just tabs over to the field for my email address and refuses to submit anything :(

Okay, the above bug was a browser issue with Chrome. In Firefox it went through fine, but the email address field would not let me enter my whole email address. I suspect there is a maximum character limit on that field that is throwing some wrenches into the works. If you need to know it, the rest of the email address is gmail.com :)
