Hi everyone,

Today is the 1st anniversary of the gemology project going public and I want to thank everyone who contributed, great or small. It could not have been done without you all.

A keyword search on "gemology" shows that the project is ranked no. 12 in the USA, which I'm very pleased with. We will not stop here of course.

Just a few numbers; we had about 20,000 unique visitors, over 300,000 pages served with almost a million hits (all excluding search engines). Not a bad number for a non-commercial website that is created by volunteers in just one year.

Thank you all for your support and help, which will hopefully be ongoing.

Doos,

As a professional college science educator for almost 40 yrs of my "real job" life, I can honestly say that the Gemology Project is an unbelievable resource! I have used it often and each time, I am amazed by its content and also its "readability". Too often in all levels of science, writers feel they must use the highest language level to "confirm" their intelligence when if fact it requires greater ability to explain complicated situations in simple language. If you want to know how good is a teacher of biology, ask them to explain photosynthesis or protein synthesis to first course non-majors. If they can so that the students understand the general idea, the teacher is a master!

The Gemology Project does just that! I hope that all members do visit it often and to you and the rest of the volunteers and the donors I wish a happy Anniversary. Keep up the excellent scholarly work.

Jim
