Hello all,
It is a great feeling to see the new forums board take off so well. Also had a little good news that I wanted to share with all of you. Just came to know 2 days ago that the The Gem-A board of examiners has decided to award me the best non-trade candidate of the year .
This said ,now I am already asking for another favour....They have decided to award me books worth GBP250 worth books. Will have to select quickly from options they send...
Any opinions on which books I should go for
Golecha

Hi
I have PG read-Gemmology, Gemstones of the world and gemstones by Cally Hall. This apart from the data I had collected during my MDGI course.
By the way if there is photoatlas on one side and the other books on the other, will go with photoatlas . But dont think they will give this option
What do I take now??

If I were you, and it's a question of budget later on, I would look at the books that you have on your wish list and choose the most expensive. You are more likely to be able to afford the less expensive ones yourself later on.
Point noted. But my wish list does not really exist because i never really thought on this. What in your suggestion are the must haves also taking into consideration the costs as you said in the last post.

Wow. That's great.
I have to agree with Doos on Photoatlas and Gems.
Those are two of the most important books in our industry.
And...they are seriously expensive. But I think your prize will cover it.
Congrats

I just got my Photoatlas of Inclusions last week, and the pictures in it are awesome, and will be invaluable to me, so I highly recommend that one if it is an option. Keep us posted as to what you choose, and again, congratulations!

Congratulations, Golecha!
The books mentioned above are all very handy and come highly recommended.
I've seen this one on Amazon.com, though. It seems very thorough, at a full 1056 pages of info, but will be released only in the final days of December. Want to take a look?

Encore... encore... Golecha.
You do us proud !!!
And welcome to the forum.
Books? ... duhh... but I guess "Gems" and "photoatlas" are great READS, right?
Hi,
Recieved the booklist this morning and me started looking in straight 'price per unit' column as advised by Africanuck .
Anatase,my prize did cover both the books suggested by Doos and others plus still have space for another 10pounds now.
A few 'specific to single gemstones' series by Ward and OPL student guide to spectroscopy are my options now (inclined towards Ruby and Sapphires by Ward-but how is it??).
Openmind-Thanks for the link, but the pricelist2005 refers to the 5th edition only .
Gemma-I could not make out whether it refers the gemologist Anderson or a bank or a bank started by gemologist Anderson . I guess its the Anderson Bank found at www.andersonbank.com . They also sponsor high school children to take a 'How to do Banking' course.
Who is giving me the prize Any idea anyone...
Crystal Star-I too expect the latest edition of photoatlas....did you get it at 140GBP or is this price for the previous edition of photoatlas again???
Appolo-Thanks.Nice to know a nice fellow indian gemmologist here.
Thanks for the great feeling guys. I get inspired to do more (dont know where... ).
Regards
Chaman Golecha
The cheapest I could find the Photoatlas for was $250 US - I don't know how that translates into other currencies. The guy sent it in just a bubble wrap envelope, so of course the binding took a few hits, and there are two dings in it. But the inside is what counts, and it's primo. You're going to love going through your new books - what great prizes...I'm so excited for you! Congratulations again and again!!
