Sorry Moderators I did not know where to put this. :D
There is a new series on the Travel Channel called Gem Hunt. The episode that I just watched was about three gem buyers traveling through Madagascar in search of pink sapphires, blue sapphires, and giant aquamarine. It shows various buying markets, mining operations, and best of all beautiful gemstones. Not to mention a giant windex blue Aquamarine which I think I fell in love with. If you love gemstones as much as me it is a must see!

Nice to see this finally out! I talked with Bernie about it back in April and he was really excited.

Cheers,

Lisa

I can't wait to have a chance to watch this show. I got a call from my dad late in the evening a couple of days ago telling me to watch it, though my current lack of solid blocks of time/TV connection makes that difficult.

I saw a couple of episodes. A bit overdramatic and their gemological tool of choice was a reflectometer. Nice scenes of gemmy places though.

As a working miner, programs like this are really welcomed, especially if the presenters show how safe most gemmie places are.
Sure there are danger zones, but if more people are encouraged to go exploring, and buying from the "miner", we all have a win. Cut out middle men, and get great deals!!
I personally, love visitors coming to my mine, sitting with me under the shade trees, and maybe buying some nice rough. If not, well, new friends are always good, and I have some spare fossicking equipment for them to borrow.
There is always plenty of coffee!!

i have watch episodes 1,2,3 of the series, it could be much better, i was expecting more field work from mining sites, anyway i love some documentary about mining or anything related to gems, i'd wish Vincent Pardieu Could do a TV Series from his gem trips

The show is a great idea and brings a slight glimpse to the general public, although its a manufactured dramatization. I wish they would do more of an in depth view of the mining and how little the big stones are found, say with in a weeks time frame, or show the violence behind the backstreets of the shanty town gem hubs. I will tell you i have tried my hand as a buyer many many a year ago, and have no ambition of ever undertaking a globe trotting adventure again. The danger they face is real! any moment could be there last as these people are desperate, and desperate people do desperate things to survive. My hat is off to them, even thou it's a show they are still in real life danger.

After every trip my employer sent me on, i would come home to Vegas and kiss the ground thanking god i was born here with all it's splendor and opportunity.

I suspect that Vincent would put the entire film crew through boot camp before deciding if they could come along or not.

I wonder if the real negotiations on stones doesn't take place beforehand and then get reenacted in front of the cameras? It's hard to imagine just how much negotiating power you'd lose with a film crew standing there.

Some international gem merchants do claim to find themselves in strange situations, like this one who says he told the government where to find Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan years ago. This story's developments should be interesting.

the thing i like about this TV series is showing the reality of the Gem Market and its Awareness.

Its all true about Scams and set ups in gem producing area. i have seen many people/clients who went to street market of particular mine fields and got scammed.

there are many hands involved & many things can happen, if gems just could speak for themselves we will see all gems have amazing story about how they form and produced in nature and following up by their extraction From Mine to Cutting Center, wholesaler, dealers, jewelry shops and finally in hand of the end user and who and when they pass it on to the next owner...

Here is an interesting link to the travel channel (remember cash and treasure and Kirsten gum) at the Hogg mine with Rodney Moore.

http://www.dixieeuhedrals.com/treasurehunterkirstengumrosequartz.html

The Travel Channel (Cash and Treasure with kirsten Gums) contacted me regards doing an episode on Chiapas amber. But with all the problems in Chiapas I did not take them up on it.

I regret it now... fancy me turning down Kirsten #-o
