Hello My girlfriend and i have traveled over from Austraila to Austria and would like to do some fossicking. I read that you can go fossicking around Hohe Tauern National Park. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give us some information on the area cause the information I found is very limited. Or if anyone is in the area would take us on a day trip? Thanks, David
Tourism Association http://www.wald-koenigsleiten.at offers guided tours to different mineral localities. Maybe you will visit Kurt Nowak in Wald in Pinzgau, he has a museum too and may tell you all places for to find minerals. Maybe he will take you to a trip too.
Gold you will find in Rauris. Emerald in Habachtal. Fluorite for example in Rehköpfle District Vorderkrimml. Titanite/Sphene in Schwarzen Hörndl or Wageralm Felbertal. Hessonite in Schwarzer Wand Hollersbachtal. Apatite in Stubachtal.
It depends what you are looking for.
And please do not forget to visit family Andreas Steiner adress: Steinach 12 Bramberg, custodian of Emerald Mine in Habachtal.

This summer we will not go to Hohe Tauern/Pinzgau but to Zillertal Austria for to look for garnet. http://www.lapis.de/mineralien_buch/de/ ... ertal.html In this magazine are all localities given for to find minerals.

Hello Steinfroilein,
Thank you for all your information, I found it so helpful. I am going to visit the people you have mentioned today. Do you know whether I can hire fossicking equipment or if it's best to buy my own? If you ever make the far trip to Australia, let me know and I'd be happy to help you out Goodluck in Zillertal!

Hello David,
In Austria it is not allowed to scratch and hammer everywhere. Many areas are under landscape or nature protection. Therefore please take no big major equipment with you. Small hammer (mallet?) is okay.
There are three different areas in the Austria National Park § 4 of https://www.ris.bka.gv.at/GeltendeFassu ... r=10000127 1) Außenzonen In these outer zones you can certainly collect minerals with the exception of a strip of 50 m. 2) Kernzonen In some center zones "Kernzonen" it is only allowed to take loose stones from ground. 3) Sonderschutzzonen Special protection zones: Here, each collecting activity is prohibited!
Please get to be informed in a tourist-information in which zone you will go and what kind of zone this is because of equipment.
