Has anyone seen the color of ruby that Gubelin granted their Pigeon Blood tag? I recently come across a great ruby that come with three certificates. SSEF grant Pigeon Blood. Old AGL color rating of: 2.5/75 R75 O15 Pk/P15. However, Gubelin does not categorized it as Pigeon Blood. I know this "trade color" may be considered as marketing gimmick, but I cannot help but wonder gubelin's pigeon blood range of color. any idea?
Well, the most important part is that all labs are in agreement when it come to the treatment and origin.

Each Gemological Laboratory has and developed it own standards. I know as a fact that some Labs even consider other factors other than Color to categorize and name the color, for example some low clarity degree on Gubelin won't get Pigeon Blood. even though it has the right color! from what I have seen many Labs (specially smaller Labs) are using a color system like The ColorCodex™ https://www.color-codex.com/shop/colorc ... ing-system or World of Color - Gemworld Internationalhttps://www.gemguide.com/services/world-of-color/ or GemeWizard http://www.gemewizard.com/index.html I Have used The ColorCodex and GemeWizard myself, by comparing other labs report you can get an idea about their criteria and standards of hue/saturation/tone to get Pigeon Blood/Royal Blue and most importantly Padparadscha Color. some Labs even developed more color terms which is beyond scope of this conversation
in labs which you see for example color nomenclature on their report, i.e., Pigeon’s blood/Royal Blue ... are mostly Sellers’ Laboratories like Gübelin, GRS... in their report the rarity and description of the color is mentioned and is an extra advertisement for the seller when presenting the stone to the buyer.
in reality i see lab report categorizing the color as Pigeon’s blood but they are far from being beautiful red color. we have a joke saying that Lab (which i don't want to name ) has so much Pigeon in their backyard and will give Pigeon Blood to any ruby
