I just cut a ruby and spinel that I want to get certified by a lab. I am thinking of sending them to AGL. What is the process for sending stones to a lab? Send by registered I am guessing? What is the turn around time usually?

Jim,
I use AGL regularly. Their fast track reports are very reasonable and attractive. Simply write a letter stating the type of stone you have, estimated value (for return postal insurance) description of the stone, type of report you want (Fast track, fast track premium, or one of the Prestige reports), your mailing address. Best to do this on company letterhead but it's not essential. You should enclose a check for the fees and return postage. They will take a credit card over the phone but there is an additional fee.
Typically from the time i send a stone to them to the time i get it back is about 2 weeks. Holiday seasons are longer.
