Hi All, I am fairly new, but making great efforts to educate myself with both the gemological side and the appraisal side of this industry.
What is the range of fees charged?
Is is better to have an hourly rate (which I feel would make clients more hesitant) or a per item based upon complexity?
Is there an industry guide based on questionairres from people with similar qualifications and geographical locations?
Hi bluesharr, It is possible you may retrieve some answers here on the GO forum, but it may better serve you to be in contact (or join) one or more of the appraisal associations -- especially those focused on the jewelry trade and appraisal science.

Roger, Thanks for your input.
I am trying to decide which association to join. In the APPA course it explains that the societies protocol follows you to court and can have a negative impact on you if it lacks any "Due Diligence" in their policies. I understand it to be even if you have performed all reasonable tests because you associate with the association. I am still working on that course, but there are alot more loopholes of how attorneys can make us more liable. A little scary, one must be prepared and very educated on the subject.
Thanks for the information on where to get fee opinions. Shannon H

Thank you for your input. I have emailed Nancy and the ASA Nor-Cal site. I really appreciate your time on this forum. It is a gift to the profession and I love the fact that most of the members work together for the common good. Thanks Again! Shannon
