Has anyone heard of Antwerp Gemological Laboratory or dealt with them in the past? It appears from their Facebook page that they are actually out of Sri Lanka and not Belgium.

Their website (http://www.aglatwp.com) seems a little off and I've attempted to reach then via their Contact Us page. I also reached out to them via their Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/AGLSriLanka/?_ ... N0njBm8oGE).

Any ideas about them?

AGL (the American Gem Lab) is very well respected and has nothing to do with the AGL you reference.

My opinion is that this lab seems misrepresented, opportunistic and bogus.

Their homepage shows them using some seriously cheap generic stereo microscopes (made to look like old Olympus stereos, like the own-brand GIA heads) on generic, non-gemological bases. Not a great impression.

Thank you all so much for your feedback. Sometimes it’s a bit confusing with so many labs available and not really sure about the quality of the lab unless you’re talking about GIA.

There are many excellent gemmological labs in the world in addition to GIA.
AGL
Gubelin
AGS
I'm sure our members can list others.

Hello all,

Coming back to this post, I just recently received a mail regarding this company. It seems to be a Chinese entity: Antwerp Gemological Laboratory,Chinese name:Shanghai Shenbao Zhubao Jiance Youxian GongSi

Unfortunately for us, there are several labs in different places of the world: Thailand/BKK, China, Greece and elsewhere who are tying to use the good name and reputation of AGL (American Gemological Laboratories) to fool and cheat others..

I have tried legal actions to stop them, but this has proven to be very difficult. I am actually going to put up a page on our website of 'fakes and imitators' so that there is at least something out there to try and protect us.

Best regards and I hope that you are all well and staying healthy!
Christopher P. Smith

Thank you, Christopher, for verifying what we all suspected.
