I just came back from a buying trip and came across a Diamond dated
(in my opinion) to around the 17th. Century...

I apparently bought the stone from an Antique merchant who purchased a whole estate from a grand child of someone who originally purchased it from a Sultan from the Ottoman Empire...

I am trying to verify this story...

Anyone know where I can get a Grading report which can identify such an old cut? Gubelin..., maybe?

Any suggestions welcomed

Is the diamond loose?
I would think that such a provinence would be very hard to verify, especially because India is currently cutting so many diamonds that mimic the styles of primitive cuts.

Yes the Diamond is loose..., BUT..., it has distinct characteristics like very old polish marks and "wear and tear" that is almost impossible to copy these days...

That's why I am looking for a Lab. which have the knowledge and literature to confirm the cut...

Dear Diagem,

The Gubelin Gem Lab is indeed testing all types of diamonds, including old
and historic ones.
For more information I would like to advise you to contact directly the lab:

All the best,

Thank you Vincent...
I will contact them...

Do you know if they issue appendixes on the potentially historic cutting style even if the material is not a rare type like for example type IIa??
