 Post subject: Jade courses?
PostPosted: Sat Mar 01, 2008 9:45 am
This is probably in the wrong place, but there didn't seem to be a 'general' education forum (just individual schools - AIGS, GIA, GEM-A).

Anyway, does anyone know of any good specialist Jade courses - especially one running in Asia? I am aware of the one at the 'Far East Gemological Institute' in Singapore. However, I won't quite be able to make their next course in mid/late March, and am not sure when they are doing another one - certainly not before the summer.

I looked at AIGS, but their courses all seem to be more expansive and geared towards accumulating their A.G. qualification.

What other options are there in Bkk for more specialised study options?

Regards,

I thought I'd post a link to the Far East Gemological Institute as it is one we haven't discussed before. I would be interested in the specifics on their jade class.
It is difficult, without having very expensive and sophisticated spectroscopic equipment, to positively determine the nature of the jadeite you are given.

Thank you for your interest in our jade course. I've gone through it and I really benefitted much from the course.

It is indeed difficult to determine the nature of the jadeite without expensive and sophisticated equipment.

In this course, the lecture who did the research on jade treatments extrapolated their results such that one can actually identify the nature of treatment on a particular piece of jade without the use of those sophisticated equipment.

You may find it really amazing how a 10x lens, microscope, refractometer and prism spectroscope and allow you to make observations and come to a conclusion on a piece of jade.

Do continue to keep a lookout on our course schedules through our website at www.gem.com.sg or our blog at www.gemstones-natureswork.blogspot.com.

Disclaimer: I'm not here to promote Far EAst Gemological Institute. I just happen to pass by this forum and hope to be able to help anybody who has the same interest.

Thank you!

The Friends of Jade site is great and Fred Ward is considered to be one of the foremost authorities on jade in the world.

I visited FarEast Gem labs a few months ago and filled in an application for the jade course this Oct.. The lady/guy who contacted me expected me to join gem i.d. The jade course appears to be part of the gem i.d.

I've found out that there is a very good jade course available in Hongkong.

Who can give any feedback on the course in Hongkong (Hongkong gem lab?)

Ursula

I am googling for some jade books, and they lead me to this post. I am too interested to know some feedback about the courses in HK. I found 2 colleges doing jade courses, one is Hong Kong Gems Laboratory, the other one is Asian Gemmoloigic Institute and Labortory Limited.

Any one who know any good jade book to recemomend? Thanks.

Phyllis
