I ordered a bracelet on eBay because I wanted a sample of B/C jade to have as a sample for my Raman. It was listed as A jade when I bought it but for $13 I was quite sure that was incorrect.
Well upon arrival i tested it on the Gemmoraman. Quartz? What? Shoot.
Checked with refractometer and microscope to verify. Quartzite...dyed quartzite.
When I first contacted the seller he offered to refund 50% and I could keep the bracelet. I refused Then, the seller said he would refund the money AND issue a paid return receipt.
I've checked quite thoroughly on eBay and can not find anywhere to report this misrepresentation. Has anyone found eBay contact for reporting bad apples?
I think all you can do is raise an "item not as described" case on ebay if you have not been refunded already. (I think it's done via starting a return)
That will automatically give you a prepaid mail label, and also a refund if the seller doesn't comply in the allotted time.
This does give the seller a defect also.
There is a "report this listing" option above a listings description on live listings, but even that has a series of options where I cant find an option to report a false or fake item.
ebay do their best to keep their head in the sand ….
Very nice fake, though. Also the reason I usually refuse to buy "jade" jewelry, or even say "it looks like jade" without also saying.... however they have gotten so good at faking it, I can't tell without my Raman.

I've reported several sellers of clearly misrepresented items and even supplied evidence for some that I purchased and returned. Ebay has never taken any action as the same sellers are still continuing to list these items without any consequences that I can tell. That said, I see that Ebay has a job posting for Sr. Director of Authentication currently, so perhaps this will change in the future... We can only hope.
