I am not sure, Barbra, but I call all gems shipped 'mineral specimens' for the benefit of customs agents. Lee

Sounds like a great deal....
Do a little research on the shipping, and let me know.
There is a special phrase used to describe such shipments to keep the price down.
Does anyone remember what that is?

Do you mean "gift" on the customs form?

Any stones I receive from overseas always has "unworked mineral samples" on the customs declaration from.

Huk, Like I posted originally, these beads will NOT scratch with good steel probes so it can't be "quartz". What other synthetic or otherwise material would be that hard?

I don't know what you call "good steel", but files are usually assumed to be 6.5, though I've seen listings for "hardened steel files" at 7. Neither is hard enough to identify quartz.
