Wow.....I wonder, if they wanted it to be more convincing, why not bond the two pieces before faceting? Would the bonding agent not be strong enough to withstand cutting? I mean, not that I want people to succeed at this, but that just seems stupid and reckless, anyone with a loupe could have caught that....

Diamonds probably get too hot in cutting for a "glue" to survive. Maybe they just wanted a diamond crown for the diffusivity tester, and hoped nobody would look beyond that?
