Hi from Edmonton, Canada.
I am a GIA distance student, in the home stretch of Grad. Gemology(I hope).
I'm about halfway through the Gem I.D. course. My instructor can't always be reached, so it will be nice to have an opportunity to ask questions on this forum.
It's also nice to have someone understand my grief when I explain how I got a scratch on my hemi cylinder.
I'm also interested in healing with gems, but mostly I just think they're pretty.

Hi Stoney, nice to meet you!
Welcome on GemologyOnline forum.
Sorry form my bad English, I'm Italian, and I don't speak English very well...
I've just finished my 500 stones last week, and now I prepare for the 20-stones final exam.
good luck for your GID course!
Bye

Don't second guess yourself.
Don't over complicate the ID.
You'll be fine.

I missed the variety call on Goldstone Glass.
I can not believe I did that. #-o
I have to do the whole thing again because of a variety call.
I need to lie down.

Hey, Stoney,

As Barbra said: DO NOT SECOND-GUESS YOURSELF!! I did that three times!! If the test results tell you what the stone is, believe it and yourself!! If you find you have time left over after you complete all 20 stones ... DO NOT GO BACK OVER YOUR RESULTS!! I did that three times!!

You know what you're doing, so try to relax and you'll do fine :D .

Yes, but missing a variety call is just pure laziness. It was a sloppy, clerical error on part. I did not go to the "Phenomenal gems" section to double check the call. I only went to the "orange, yellow and brown gems" section. On the detailed listing for "glass", there is no variety call for Goldstone. Had I cross referenced it, I would have realized I needed to make a variety call. Grrrr. I'm getting too old for this. I'm turning 46 next month and I want to get this finished before I need bifocals.

When I did my exam, the best advice I got was to turn all the stones in, then do a careful check of each ID against the book, to ensure I'd dotted all the T's and crossed the I's (or something like that :-)

I'm seriously dyslexic, and an INTJ which means I couldn't see the details even if I cared about them. I'd get exactly the right identification, but have it marked wrong for clerical reasons. Going over everything AFTER the stones were handed back meant I could carefully check my work but not be able to second guess the answer.

Much success to you!

Lisa
