Hello,
I'm an older guy who always wanted to be a faceter all his life and moved down here to NYC. Don't know anybody. Have no idea how to procede up here in the big city of the north east. TI like to do enameling and gem setting ala 1880-1920ish style...those fantasy cuts are right up my alley and luring me to take the plunge.

1. Are there any clubs/groups in NYC area that might help me acquire my first machine? It makes more sense to put money into a machine and start to cut rather than getting involved in a course and have nothing to cut on at the end. Reading and umpteen youtubes has fooled me into thinking I would be able to do it on my own. Your thoughts?
2. Judging from the posts regarding how facet machines are boxed and shipped (after being mothballed and stored in the shed) I'd rather sleep with a vampire before buying a used machine sight unseen from the bay. Craig's list in the metro area has been zero hits on a used machine. Buy new? Your Thoughts?
3. Spent the last couple decades drooling over an Ultra Tec...don't know why but making something with that perfection is....'grace'(?)
4. Am not looking to make money and actually would be more interested in buying stone from you all and doing only the fancy, fantasy cuts and carvings. I know, not the wisest way to start but that is my goal, to do fancy cuts to make art nouveau type settings for my wife and sisters.

Purchase of a used faceting machine and saving for a factory purchase fantasy/carving machine is my plan. Your thoughts?

Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you personally. I am certainly looking forward to interacting with you on the forum. Thanks for letting in this Newbie.
