Hello all) I am Lana - gemmologist with 15-th years experience from Russia I will be glad if my knowledge will help anybody))) And (certainly) i would like to find new frinds here)))
Awesome! I have a question for you--what do you know about imperial topaz from Sanarka? Most of what I can find in English is pretty vague, and the only sites with good pictures are in Russian. But what I've seen has looked incredible, and made people who say imperial topaz has to be from Brazil seem rather silly.

The name for imperial topaz originated in nineteenth-century Russia. At the time, the Ural Mountains were topaz’s leading source, and the pink gemstone mined there was named to honor the Russian czar. Ownership of the gem was restricted to the royal family.
(Though how much of that restriction is history and how much is romanticism seems to still be a matter of debate. The stones' existence, however, is not; the pictures I've seen have ranged from great to fabulous, with the classic crystal form and fantastic orange/pink/purple coloration).

Timur, how is alexandrite production going? Truth be told the only fine gems* I haven't seen with a Russian locality are tanzanite and paraiba type tourmaline.
*and of course hauyne, benitoite, which fall into more of the collectible curiosity dish.
Your demantoid looks fabulous. All Russian? I'm surprised you will not be in Tucson....perhaps next year.
You want to know something curious? Today all Russian demantiod fashioned as rounds has an 8 sided symmetry, like diamonds.
FYI: Demantoid rounds, cut in the 1800's all had a pentagonal symmetry, making them look like 5 pointed stars with magnification.
there is big list of other not expensive cab grade material like different kind of chalcedony (quatrz variety) mostly for local use and a short list of facet grade non tradition gems for collectors like barites, danburites etc...
the photos of demantoids on my website are not mine, they are provided by the owner of Sunflower LLC Nickolai Kuznetsov these deamntoids are already sold. You can see his copyrites if you move the mouse on the photo but not click.
